Welcome students and parents!

My name is Mr. Rock, and I will be taking you or your child through World History this year. If you would like to get in touch with me, you can e-mail me at walkere@wordpress.com.

I am a first year teacher, so this will be quite the experience for all of us. I recently graduated from Rutgers University and did my student teaching internship nearby in Old Bridge, NJ. I also taught World History there. World History is one of my favorite subjects, because it simultaneously provides us a background with which to understand United States history and a collection of knowledge with which to understand global political events and trends. We live in an increasingly global world, and we’re not in Kansas anymore.

In my course, you will be expected to do your fair share of work. Each day you will have some kind of homework assignment, be it a short reading from the textbook, a supplemental reading, or a written assignment. You will be expected to do these on a regular basis and these assignments will generally create a foundation for what we do in class the next day. If no one does their homework, we’ll be stuck with nothing to do in class, and none of us will have any fun.

Your grade will be composed of a variety of things. Homework, as I mentioned above, is integral to the course, and homework completion makes up 20% of your grade. Another 10% of your grade comes from class participation. Finally, the last 70% of your grade will consist of your “Unit” grades. Each unit will have a set of assignments, tests, and quizzes to go with it. Each of these assignments, tests, and quizzes will be worth a certain number of points. At the end of the unit, you will receive an overall grade which is averaged into that 70% of your final grade.
